Mom

According to the Viet Minh, any family that had five or more acres of land belonged to the landlord class. My mother’s family was no exception, so their estate was confiscated, and her home was converted into a military headquarters. As a result, her family had to overcome many obstacles to survive. My mother was only seven years old when she had to make a living as a cowherd. That was enormously difficult because of the destruction created by the Viet Minh and the French. In fact, there were very few grass fields on which the cows could graze. In addition, to make ends meet, my mother had to gather twigs from fallen trees in the forest to sell as kindling.
